ABOUT US

This Betenbender Hydraulic Shear,
(one of the first machines - made in 1972) is still in operation today.
The Betenbender Family of Hydraulic Shears, Press Brakes and C Frame Presses are manufactured and assembled in Coggon, Iowa, U.S.A. Now in our fifth decade of business, Betenbender Manufacturing, Inc. continues to produce what we believe are America's best built Hydraulic Shears, Press Brakes and
C Frame Presses.
Glen (Pete) Betenbender began as a blacksmith in Coggon during the 1930s. During WWII, he ran a small fabrication and repair shop. In 1948 he and his wife, Blanche, moved their growing business into its
current location as a repair and manufacturing facility. Their son, Max, joined the company in 1967 after serving in the United States Army. In 1972, Pete and Max built their first shear for their own use, but demand from other local businesses for their shear prompted the Betenbenders' to begin producing shears for national and international resale. In 1984 Betenbender Manufacturing, Inc. got its first contract
to produce shears for a major company.
Max and Donna lost their eldest child Ted in 1999, at that time Max decided to bring their daughter Teresa in to work in the office. After the loss of the founders Pete and Blanche in 2009, Max assumed the roll as President of Betenbender Manufacturing, Inc.
In 2012, Betenbender Manufacturing, Inc. purchased Hydraulic Machines, Inc. from longtime friends,
Alan and Whitney Hanner. Under the HMI (Hydraulic Machines of Iowa) name, Betenbenders offers a
line of C Frame Presses ranging from 35 ton to 200 ton.
After a long fight with cancer Max passed away in 2019 leaving his wife Donna, his daughter Teresa and her children Courtney and Cameron as the heirs to the company. Today Betenbender Mfg continues to
be a family owned and operated business with Donna, Teresa, Courtney and Cameron all playing an
active roll in the success and continuation of Betenbender Mfg.
There are more than 5,000 Betenbender machines worldwide and can be found on every content and with few ever appearing on the used market, our reputation for quality and durability continues to stand the test of time. If you want a machine to pass down from generation to generation you have found the right place!
We have always said...
“If it says Betenbender on the nameplate, you’ve got a machine that will do the job.” -Max Betenbender
